A meeting Wednesday in Montgomery brought Auburn University one step closer to a new board of trustees.
Out of the original 170 potential candidates, the selection committee has chosen 35 to interview for the nine available positions.
"They had a written questionnaire, and so all of the committee members nominated several to interview," said Jennifer Ardis, press secretary for Gov. Robert Bentley.
The interview process is the next step to securing a new board. The selection committee has set aside Jan. 25 and Jan. 30 to allow for 15-minute interviews with each nominee.
"(The committee members) sort of set the message for what they want to ask ... whether it's professional-what they've done in their professional careers or what they've done for Auburn University-They have the choice of the questions," Ardis said.
According to the board of trustees website, all interviews will be held in the lieutenant governor's conference room at the state Capitol. The selection committee's final nominations will go to the state Senate for approval.
