The Updyke trial is just beginning and already tempers are rising.
Harvey Updyke walked through the security checkpoint at the Lee County Justice Center in Opelika Monday morning to appear in court for the deposition of witness for the prosecution Cindy Foster, a chemical expert at the Mississippi State Chemical Laboratory Pesticide Residue Division.
Before that, Updyke's wife Elva unleashed her frustrations on a deputy, getting into a yelling match about the media surrounding her husband.
Foster issued a video deposition that will be played for the jury later this week and is said to be crucial to the prosecution's case, according to Evan Woodberry of al.com.
Jury selection will begin Tuesday with the trial being expected to begin Wednesday or whenever the selection is completed.
The defense also brought a chemist, Lawrence Keith, to evaluate the deposition, according to al.com.
