Police are now expanding the manhunt for alleged Auburn shooter, Desmonte Leonard, to include an accomplice.
Leonard, 22, is currently evading law enforcement for allegedly shooting three people, including two former Auburn University football players, and wounding another three people during a party at the University Heights apartment complex in Auburn on the night of June 9.
A recent press conference in Montgomery brought together Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange, Montgomery Director of Public Safety Chris Murphy and Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy to comment on the unfolding situation.
Strange addressed the crowd on the current situation.
"I want to remind everybody that we are dealing with a triple homicide suspect," Strange said.
Responding to allegations that they may have been misled, Strange also tried to reassure citizens.
"We had the perfect combination," Strange said. "There are probably a lot of people who are second guessing what went on this morning."
Strange said that authorities responded to a 911 call from a female who claimed that a man resembling Leonard was in her living room.
Montgomery Director of Public Safety Chris Murphy reassured the public of the dedication of authorities while urging Leonard's family to try to contact Leonard.
"We will get this man," Chris said. "If the family is watching we would continue to employ that they continue to put pressure on him to turn himself in. We take this very, very seriously."
Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy refused to disclose their current plans to pursue Leonard or the technology used in last night's search.
"We don't want to give the bad guy our playbook," Kevin said.
The FBI has offered a $10,000 reward for Leonard, the U.S. Marshals have offered $5,000, Auburn University has offered $10,000 and Strange has offered $5,000, bringing the total reward to $30,000 for information leading to Leonard's arrest.
