Media days require more than meets the eye

Aside from the coach, three players from each team are selected to participate in media days.

But how tough can preparation be for a few routine interviews?

"The three of us are up here on a platform in more ways than one," said senior tight end Phillip Lutzenkirchen. "Literally we are on a platform."

Lutzenkirchen, among other topics, explained that the players attending media days come prepared with the help of the coaching and media relations staff.

"You have to play the fence with goofing around and showing people your fun side. Just be yourself," Lutzenkirchen said. "The coaches didn't pick you because you're a bad person and they also didn't pick you just because of your athletic skills. They want you to represent not only yourself, but your whole team."

Louisiana State University junior safety Eric Reid also said his teammates come prepared, and have to be careful of what they say.

"We do little training sessions and mock interviews and things like that, but it wasn't like this not, nearly this many cameras," Reid said. "They just let us know that a lot of people are watching and to be careful."

As Lutzenkirchen wrapped up his moment interview, he commented on how changing quarterbacks last season effected the team's play.

"At the end of the day you want to give yourself the best chance of winning... but at times it was frustrating because you feel like you're in a groove with one of the quartebacks and then just because it's a certain situation you'll put another quarterback in," Lutzenkirchen said. "Sometimes the rhythm got choppy, but at the end of the day you're just trying to win the game and do what's best for the team."
