John Caleb Kearly, of Dothan died in a car accident Sunday, July 29. He is the third Auburn student to lose their life in a car accident since the beginning of the summer semester.
A memorial service was held for Kearly at Westgate church in Dothan on August 1.
Gene Kearly, Kearly's father, said "I could tell that the 200 people who showed up were all positively affected by Caleb. They were his friends."
Kearly, known as Caleb to his friends and family, was about to begin his sophomore year in pre-Civil Engineering.
"We learned a lot about our son from this," said Kearly. "He had all the fun a young man could have, but still maintained his devotion to Christ."
Kearly was a member of the Auburn Christian Student Center and a member of the Auburn Ultimate Frisbee Club.
Jackson Garrett, who played Ultimate Frisbee with Kearly and is also a member of the Auburn Christian Student Center, remembers Kearly as more than just a good friend.
Garrett said "He was a super-nice guy. If you didn't like him, then something was wrong with you. Everyone who knew him was his friend."
According to Garrett, The Auburn Ultimate Frisbee Club is planning a memorial tournament in Kearly's honor.
"He was one of those people who never gave up," said Garrett. "He was a great Christian."
