Auburn coach Gene Chizik has named sophomore quarterback Kiehl Frazier the starting quarterback for the opening game against Clemson in the Georgia Dome Sept. 1 in Atlanta.

"After a complete and thorough evaluation during spring practice and through the first three-plus weeks of camp, Kiehl Frazier has earned the starting job at quarterback," Chizik said. "We expect Kiehl to be a leader for this team and to continue to work hard every day. I am confident in his ability and leadership skills and look forward to watching him progress in both areas."

Frazier completed 5-of-12 passes for 34 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions in 2011 as the backup to Barrett Trotter and Clint Moseley.

Frazier played in 13 games as a freshman, rushing for 327 yards and scoring three touchdowns on 76 rushing attempts.

After seeing substantial action last season, Moseley continues to rehab his shoulder and has been limited in practice.

The Tigers will return to practice tonight at 5:30 p.m. and offensive coordinator Scott Loeffler and defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder will be available to the media.
