Lee County under tornado watch

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Lee County until 8 p.m.

At 1:21 p.m., the Auburn University Department of Public Safety & Security alerted students that a tornado watch had been issued for Lee County and that students should be ready for emergency procedures if necessary.

The alert clarified that a tornado watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to form.

Students are advised to monitor the weather and be prepared to take appropriate action if they hear the campus tornado sirens, receive an AU Alert or see a warning message through any variety of public address systems.
