Moseley named starting quarterback

Once again, Clint Moseley has a shot at redemption.

For the second season in a row, Moseley has been forced to watch the first half of the season from the bench.

On Friday, for the second season in a row, Gene Chizik promoted the junior backup quarterback to the starter in an attempt to breathe life into the 10th worst offense in the nation.

In 2011, Barrett Trotter beat Moseley out for the job in fall practices and led the team to a 4-2 record despite a struggling offense.

In week 7, with the Tigers up 7-6 on Florida, Chizik chose Moseley to start the second half of the game and watched as the then-sophomore went 4 of 7 for 90 yards and led the team to a 17-6 victory.

The following week Moseley was named the starter.

The situation this year is nearly identical.

Former starter Kiehl Frazier was supplanted by Moseley in the second half of Auburn's 24-7 loss versus Arkansas and Moseley has once again emerged as the starter.

Moseley didn't impress in his season debut and threw two picks into the end zone.

However, he went through his progressions quickly when given time and tried to get rid of the ball with more urgency than Frazier showed.

Moseley earned the starting job in 2011.

This year, Frazier simply lost it.

This decision is also interesting because of the team's opponent this weekend.

The team will travel to Oxford, Miss. to take on Ole Miss Saturday, Oct. 13 in Moseley's first start of the season.

In 2011, Moseley didn't play well after earning the starting job and only had two games in which his touchdown total exceeded his interceptions.

One of those was a cupcake pay-to-win game against Samford.

The other was against Ole Miss.

Against the Rebels in 2011, Moseley went 12 of 15 for 160 yards and four touchdowns.
