Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Christian Westerman has reportedly transferred to Arizona State, according to Justin Hokanson of AuburnSports.com.
The Chandler, Ariz. native was once the crown jewel of a bounty of highly ranked offensive line recruits in the 2011 signing class. Westerman was ranked the No. 2 offensive tackle nationally.
The move may come as a result of the release of former offensive line coach Jeff Grimes.
With the arrival of head coach Gus Malzahn and the rest of his newly assembled staff, the influx of uncertainty seems to have not only planted doubt in the minds of recruits, but also in some of the players.
Westerman is the only Auburn player to transfer away from the new regime so far. A nagging ankle injury forced him to miss most of the 2012 season, a disappointing 3-9 campaign that culminated in the release of the entire coaching staff.
