Tornado watch issued for Auburn University until 7 p.m., severe weather expected

A tornado watch has been issued for Auburn University until 7 p.m.

A recent tweet from AU ALERT advises all in the area to monitor the weather and be prepared to seek shelter if necessary.

Severe weather is expected for Auburn University and the surrounding area today, according to a weather briefing put out by the University Jan. 29 at 2:30 p.m.

Between noon and 3 p.m., the forecast calls for severe thunderstorms and windy conditions, with main threats of isolated tornadoes and damaging winds expected.

All components the AU ALERT system will be activated if a tornado warning is issued for campus.

Greene Hall and Draughon Library will be available to use for those who cannot find adequate shelter.

The University has advised students not to wait until an alert is issued to start making preparations and that university operations are automatically suspended if a tornado warning is issued.

A wind advisory put in effect for Lee County at 6 p.m. yesterday will also be in effect until 6 p.m. today.
