Music festivals offer eclectic lineups with big-name headliners

Summer is right around the corner, and with it comes a plethora of epic music festivals littered across the United States, featuring bands and artists that can satisfy all kinds of different musical tastes.

Ultra

Where: Miami, Fla.

When: March 15-17 and March 22-24

General Admission: $300

Lineup: Avicii, David Guetta, Bassnectar, Calvin Harris, Kaskade, Knife Party, Tiesto, deadmau5, Steve aoki

Ultra Music Festival has predominantly electronic music. Each year the festival is a huge spectacle of colors, glitter and neon with a constant pumping bass and flashing lights. Ultra is also celebrating its 15th anniversary, an event that will likely be incomparable to any other.

Coachella

Where: Indio, Calif.

When: April 12-14 and April 19-21

General Admission: $394

Lineup: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phoenix, the Yeah YeahYeahs

Coachella started in 1999 and takes place in the California desert. Last year, a hologram version of Tupac Shakur performed alongside Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre in an eerily life-like performance. Coachella has sparked innovation and diversity within its venues and performances, constantly looking for new ways to entertain and bring music to life.

Hangout

Where: Gulf Shores

When: May 17-19

General Admission: $229

Lineup: Kings of Leon, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Bassnectar, The Shins

Hangout has become increasingly popular among students because of its close proximity to Auburn. It has a chill environment that allows people to be beach bums while watching all their favorite artists perform.

Governor's Ball

Where: Randall's Island, NYC

When: June 7-9

General Admission: $220

Lineup: Kanye West, Guns n Roses, Pretty Lights, The Avett Brothers, The Lumineers, Nas, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Governor's Ball is a festival with an eclectic, epic lineup, featuring huge headliners for a lower ticket price.

Bonnaroo

Where: Manchester, Tenn.

When: June 13-16

General Admission: $269

Lineup: Mumford & Sons, Paul McCartney, R. Kelly, Wilco, Pretty Lights

Bonnaroo is often defined by its earthy, peaceful vibes and the various characters who attend. It allows for people to set up camp, waking up and falling asleep to live music.

Rolling Stone magazine named the Bonnaroo experience one of the 50 moments that changed the history of rock 'n' roll.

Lollapalooza

Where: Chicago, Ill.

When: August 2-4

General Admission: $230

Lineup: Not yet released

Another popular festival, Lollapalooza takes on a life of it's own with incredible energy from both fans and artists.

The line-up for this summer hasn't been released yet, but 'Lolla' has featured artists from Eminem, Jack White, Florence + The Machine, The Black Keys and many more.

Electric Zoo

Where: Randall's Island, N.Y.

When: Aug 30, 31 and Sept. 1

General Admission: $329

Lineup: Not yet released

Electric Zoo is a festival that's focused on electronic dance music with past headliners like Pretty Lights, Bloody Beatroots, Adventure Club, Datsik, 12th Planet, Tiesto and more.

Prices might seem steep for most of the festivals, but depending on the lineup, they can be worth every penny.

The experience allows thousands upon thousands of music-lovers to congregate in an environment focused on good vibes and good music. Whether it be in a California desert or at the sandy beaches of Gulf Shores, it is bound to be a life-changing, unforgettable journey.
