The Auburn Tigers baseball team dropped the ball against the Kennesaw State Owls Tuesday afternoon at Plainsman Park, with a loss of 9-2.
“Obviously I’m very disappointed,” said coach John Pawlowski. “I talked to (the team) and told them that we’ve got to get very competitive. Those guys understand. Tomorrow we’ve got some work to do.”
Pawlowski attributes the loss to lack of successfully executing pitches and not taking advantage of scoring opportunities.
Kennesaw State was leading by the top of the fifth with 2-0, and by the top of the sixth, was up 7-0. Five out of the overall nine runs Kennesaw State scored came in this inning and propelled the team forward while solidifying a loss for the Tigers.
Junior Damek Tomscha and senior Garrett Cooper scored Auburn’s two runs. The loss brought Auburn’s record down to 6-2, while raising Kennesaw State’s to 5-3.
“We’re going to evaluate practice and see where we’re going from there,” Pawlowski said. “Right now I think there are some areas that we’ve got to get better and we’ve got to get some confidence going.”
Lefties Daniel Koger and Michael O’Neal will starting in the Tigers’ next games while the third starter is yet to be determined.
Noticeably in attendance at the game was Brian Jordan, former outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers. Jordan currently serves as a pre-game TV analyst for the Braves on “Braves Live.”
Auburn will face Eastern Illinois on Friday at 3 p.m. in the first of a three game series. The game on Saturday will begin at 3 p.m. and the game on Sunday will begin at 1 p.m.
