You win some, you lose some

The softball team split the two games it played Saturday, Feb. 23 after cruising past Southern University 7-1, and then losing to New Mexico 2-1.

The win and the loss move Auburn to a 12-4 overall record.

In the first game of the day, Auburn scored in five of the first six innings of the game to claim a 7-1 win over Southern University.

Lexi Davis started and earned the win to improve to 4-2. Davis allowed just one hit, did not issue a walk and struck out five in four innings of work. Davis retired the last 11 batters she faced.

Tiffany Howard made her first pitching appearance, throwing the final three innings and allowing one run, earned, on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

In the second game of the day, New Mexico scratched out two runs and held off an Auburn rally in the sixth inning to prevail 2-1.

Marcy Harper took the loss in relief to fall to 4-2.

Auburn will return to action at home against Middle Tennessee State Friday, March 1 at 12:30 p.m.
