Auburn baseball can't notch 1st SEC win

The Auburn baseball team failed to capture its first conference win of the season as they lost to No. 3 LSU 5-1 on Saturday night in Baton Rouge.

After dropping the first game of the series 9-4, the Tigers again failed to get anything going at the plate.

LSU jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

Auburn pitcher Michael O'Neal, who started the season with four straight wins, dropped his second consecutive decision after allowing four earned runs on seven hits.

Auburn scored its first and only run of the game in the fifth as Damek Tomscha singled to score Ryan Tella.

"I thought we gave ourselves plenty of opportunities, we just weren't able to come up with something," said head coach John Pawlowski. "I was hoping someone could find a hole and we could score some runs, but it didn't happen."

The loss dropped Auburn's record to 15-8 on the season (0-5 SEC).

The Tigers will take on LSU again on Sunday at 1 p.m. in an attempt to avoid the series sweep and notch its first SEC win of the season.
