Auburn Sigma Pi of the Alpha Delta Chapter brought puppy kisses to Auburn's campus when it had its philanthropy event on March 19-20.

Sigma Pi organized a puppy-kissing booth on the green space between the Student Center and Parker Hall.

The puppy-kissing booth was organized to help raise money for the For Paws Rescue Center, which is located off of Opelika road.

"They are a rescue shelter here in Auburn and they actually contributed a bunch of puppies yesterday," said Matthew Zafrir, sophomore in finance and Sigma Pi fraternity member. "They need the money."

Zafrir was in charge of organizing and doing logistics including recruiting the puppies.

The puppies were mostly donated by Auburn students, said Nick Davis, fifth year senior in biomedical sciences.

Most of them were owned by Auburn students, but a few of the puppies came from humane societies and rescue shelters throughout the state, including For Paws.

Other puppies came from people that the fraternity members knew. Davis was the mastermind behind the puppy-kissing booth.

"It was Nick Davis's idea and he just got a bunch of us together and split us up into committees," said Todd Ossanna, junior in political science. "(We) called a bunch of friends and family for dogs and stuff and just got them over here."

Ossanna helped to build the puppy-kissing booth and helped to find some of the puppies.

On both days, Sigma Pi had about 10-12 puppies for students to play with. Admission to play with the puppies was $5 for a single day pass and $7 for a two-day pass.

"You get a kiss from the puppy, we are spreading peanut butter on peoples' faces and they lick the peanut butter of," Zafrir said. "Then you go in the play pen and just play with the rest of the puppies."

Not only did students come to play with the puppies, but also Aubie came to support Sigma Pi and play with the puppies.

The philanthropy raised about $1000 in the first day and hoped to double that by the end.

"The ultimate goal is to get about $2000 total," Davis said. "But a little bit under? We would definitely be happy."

Zafrir said it was difficult at times throughout planning the event and contacting For Paws as well as finding the puppies.

Davis said that the most difficult part was getting vaccination records for all of the dogs.

"The University will not let us on campus without vaccination records," Davis said. "My favorite part has just been the puppies, I mean that is an obvious answer for anyone dealing with them."

Zafrir said that his favorite part of the event was seeing people walk by and look at what Sigma Pi had organized.

"I know they want to be in here," Zafrir said.

Ossanna said that his favorite part was all of the girls who came to see the puppies.

In addition to raising money and helping For Paws, Sigma Pi also participates in project uplift in the fall, Zafrir said.
