The defending SEC champion Auburn women's golf team traveled to Greensboro, N.C. this weekend to compete in what Golf Digest calls "the toughest field of the spring," the Bryan National Collegiate.
After two rounds, the No. 28-ranked Tigers are in fifth place with a team total of 19-over, 595.
The Tigers have been lead by junior Marta Sanz, who shot a 3-under 69 on Saturday and has posted a two-day total of 144, and fellow junior Diana Fernandez, who is one stroke behind Sanz with a 145. Both are in the top 10 for the weekend thus far.
"Marta stepped up today and made a statement," said head coach Kim Evans. "We are seeing improvement as a team and are looking forward to continuing tomorrow."
Auburn trails Virginia by 21 strokes, Arkansas by 12 strokes, Vanderbilt by nine strokes and Georgia by a mere one stroke.
They will look to climb the leaderboard in the third and final round, which will begin with a shotgun on Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
