A tornado warning for AU and Lee County has expired as of 9:15 p.m., but a tornado warning is in effect until 10 p.m.

The Notasulga Police Department confirmed that there was damage on Highway 14 and County Road 39, but specifics are unknown at this time.

According to the National Weather Service, at 8:52 p.m. tornado had been spotted 6 miles north of Notasulga moving northeast at 35 mph.

A tornado warning had been issued for Auburn University's main campus and Lee County until 9:15 p.m. Because tornadoes are difficult to see at night, the NWS advised that everyone take shelter immediately.

The University advised:

A press release from the University designates shelter areas and emergency procedures for tornadoes:

If a TORNADO WARNING affecting the Auburn University campus is issued, all components of the AU ALERT system will be activated (including sirens; indoor public address; desktop alerting; tone alert and NOAA weather radios; and email, text and voice messages)."

Severe thunderstorms had also been spotted in the area. Residents are advised to stay indoors and be prepared in case of an emergency situation.

Additional safety measures for severe weather and campus emergencies can be found at auburn.edu/emergency.

Counties also included in the watch are: Barbour, Bullock, Chambers, Macon, Pike and Russel.
