Auburn Wins Series Against Ole Miss

The series was tied at one game apiece before Damek Tomscha stepped up to the plate for the Tigers and hit the go-ahead homerun in the eighth inning to win the series against No. 18 Ole Miss Sunday, May 5.

The 5-4 victory was the first series win for Auburn since defeating Georgia April 13 and the game featured nonstop excitement.

Hunter Kelley stole not one, but two homeruns from Ole Miss out in right field that saved the game for the Tigers. The catches came in the third and seventh innings and were the first time Kelley had ever stolen a home run.

"It was two balls that were hit perfect to the wall to give me an opportunity," said Kelley. "I didn't have a good day at the plate. I was trying to do anything to help my team."

Head Coach John Pawlowski was ejected during the game after arguing a strike call and finished the game watching from his office.

"It was a good reaction," Kelley said. "We were all pumped up. We got the momentum going a little bit."

Terrance Dedrick came through in the ninth inning and earned the save for the Tigers that included an athletic, tumbling catch behind the mound to end the game.

"Our offense came in big with big hits," Dedrick said. "Everybody kept their composure; the defense stepped up.... Hunter Kelley robbing balls left and right. I just can't talk enough how well they did."

The win improved Auburn to 27-19 overall and 9-15 in the SEC. The Tigers will play against Jacksonville State on Tuesday, May 7.
