In a letter to Aviation students, parents and alumni, Provost Timothy Boosinger has announced that the University will continue the professional flight management and aviation management degree programs.
The letter addressed several points of concern for the Auburn Aviation community, including facilities, pilot certification and the need for additional faculty.
While Dr. Joe Hanna will continue as the interim director, "qualified instructors have been hired to support the program while (the University) addresses faculty needs on a more permanent basis," according to the letter.
Boosinger also states in the letter the intent to search for appropriate means of fundraising to facilitate additional resources needed to strengthen these programs. This could mean a raise in tuition or fees to cover rising operational costs along with requesting support from "alums, friends and [the aviation] industry" for scholarships and equipment.
Outreach to the aviation industry will serve as a top priority, given that this support is essential to the success of the program, according to Boosinger's letter.
College of Business Dean Bill Hardgrave announced Friday, May 10, to the Aviation Management Advisory Board that the Aviation flight degree would be terminated, resulting in continuous responses from Aviation Management students, alumni, parents and industry leaders.
