Former Auburn basketball star Korvotney Barber was confirmed dead on Sunday afternoon after apparently drowning off the coast of Panama City Beach, Fla.
According to Mike Szvetitz of the Opelika-Auburn News, Barber's body was found by a civilian between the Boardwalk Beach and Top of the Gulf condos.
At 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Barber's body was awaiting transport by the medical examiner, according to Cpl. Jason Gleason of the Panama City Beach Police Department.
Barber's body was the second found this weekend in Panama City Beach. Late Saturday night, Panama City Beach police recovered the body of Georgia resident Tony Underwood, Jr., who also went missing in the water during the day.
The beach was under double red flag conditions throughout the day, and Barber was reported missing in the water near the Pineapple Willy's restaurant on Saturday evening.
Barber, the 12th-leading scorer in Auburn basketball history, was a member of the program from 2005-2009. As a senior, "K-Vot" was named to the SEC Second and All-Tournament teams and averaged a double-double at the center position.
The former McDonald's High School All-American has played overseas since leaving Auburn. He averaged 13.2 points and 7.4 rebounds for Switzerland's Lugano Tigers last season.
"My thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with the family and friends of Korvotney Barber during this tremendously difficult time," Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs posted to Twitter on Sunday.
