Toomer's corner has seen its fair share of change over the past year. With the loss of the oaks, the landscape seems bare.
However, the Tuesday, July 6, installation of the temporary wire structure for rolling marks the first steps towards the new Toomer's corner.
On Thursday, Aug 8, members of the SGA met to do their part in keeping the Toomer's tradition alive.
Robert Powers, the SGA Executive Vice President of Programming, said, "It's an end of summer tradition for the SGA"
"We painted all the tiger paws along Donahue," Powers said. "We save the big one for last, so it looks fresh and bright for football season."
The crew of SGA executive members met at approximately 11:00 p.m. Thursday and quickly sprang into action as the police blocked off the intersection of North College St. and Magnolia Ave.
Powers said, "They only give us about 30-45 minutes, so we have to move fast."
Once the street was clear, the crew used leaf blowers to clean the intersection. As soon as the intersection was clean, crew members used large paint rollers to apply orange paint to the worn tiger paw.
Chelsea Crooks, SGA Executive Vice President of Initiatives, was part of the team focused on the blue and white AU symbol in the middle of the paw.
"This is the third time I've done it," said Crooks. "No one knows who does this, so it's a cool behind-the-scenes type of thing. And it's a great bonding experience for us."
Even Miss Auburn Tara Jones and Aubie showed up to lend a hand.
"I'm not sure how long we've been doing this," said Brad Smith, SGA Graduate Advisor. "But this has been a tradition for as long as I can remember."
According to Roberts, Along with tiger paws on Donahue Ave., the SGA crew painted a total of 200 paws.
