While Auburn students have adjusted how they budget their time for the start of the semester, their Student Government Association discussed changing the way it budgets its funds.
With the walls of Student Center Room 2222 covered in goals for the new school year, the SGA Senate had their first meeting of the new semester.
"Welcome back," said Amy Anne Olsen, SGA vice president, to start of the meeting.
Senator Jacie Coressel, College of Liberal Arts, proposed a bill to combine the Black Student Union and International Student organization into one Student Activity Project, or SAP.
Previously, BSU and ISO were part of the Governance SAP.
"The reasoning to change BSU and ISO into one SAP is because they're not governing organizations," Coressel said.
The bill was originally scheduled to be future business, but because of time constraints it was moved up to new business.
"If we don't vote on it tonight we won't be able to combine the budgets," Coressel said.
The bill passed, and BSU and ISO are now part of the Multicultural Programs SAP.
This leaves SGA as the lone entity in the Governance SAP.
Coressel also proposed a bill that would change the due date of Student Activity Fees budgets from the beginning of the fall semester to the beginning of the spring semester.
"It will ease the transition for new treasurers," Coressel said. "It probably should have been done last year."
Coressel also said by changing the budget due date, SGA would be more closely matching the University's budget due dates, ensuring treasurers would be in town and would allow a treasurer to approach budgeting with the maximum amount of job experience.
William McManus, SGA treasurer, supported the idea.
"This is something that I'm really passionate about," McManus said. "Obviously, because I ran on it, but it's also something I've really looked at."
Other future business included the approval of Miss Homecoming and spring election dates.
The proposed bill would make declaration of intent to run for Miss Homecoming Tuesday, Sept. 17, and voting for Miss Homecoming Friday, Oct. 11.
The SGA Senate will not meet next week because of Labor Day.
The next SGA Senate meeting will be Monday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
