Auburn student jumps from parking deck, pronounced deceased

UPDATE JAN. 24, 2014, 3:52 p.m.--- Barrett "Bear" McCoy Townsend, 22, senior in software engineering and brother in Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Auburn University, died at 5:47 p.m. from a multiple blunt force impact, according to Bill Harris, Lee County coroner.
Harris confirmed the coroner's office does not suspect any foul play. The Coroner's office determined that at this time the act appeared as intentional.
Townsend was rushed to the emergency room via ambulance, but died shortly after arrival from the six-story fall.
The young man's body was taken to the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences medical examiner's office in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.
The case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Division and the Lee County Coroner's Office.

UPDATED JAN. 24, 2014--- Barrett McCoy Townsend, 22, a senior in software engineering and brother of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Auburn University, was pronounced deceased by the Lee County Coroner, according to an Auburn Police Division, Jan. 24 news release.
Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 at approximately 5:09 p.m. the APD responded to the North Park Public Parking Deck, based on a call that the individual had fallen from the top level of the parking deck and sustained critical injuries.
Townsend was transported by ambulance to the EAMC emergency room. Townsend was unable to recover from his injuries.
Police believe there is no indication of foul play, however; the APD is conducting a full investigation into Townsend's death.
The body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's office in Montgomery for an autopsy.
Alabama Department of Forensics, the State Medical Examiner's Office and the Lee County Coroner's Office will assist the APD in further investigation.

The Auburn Police Division responded to a call at 5:09 p.m. of a young man jumping off the North Park Parking Deck on 712 W. Magnolia Ave., according to Capt. Lorenza Dorsey with the APD.
When police arrived on scene they discovered an unresponsive young-adult male.
"He was treated on the scene and transported the East Alabama Medical Center," Dorsey said. "The last information is he is in critical condition."
Police believe the individual jumped from the top of the six-floor parking deck.
"The case is still under investigation," Dorsey said. "We don't want to get ahead of ourselves and speculate on the facts until we've had time to conduct a thorough and complete investigation. We certainly don't expect any foul play."
There was only one man involved with the incident. Updates to follow.
