Camp War Eagle counselors are some of the first people that incoming Auburn students will be meeting. Lauren Romano, sophomore in elementary education; Jessica Schaus, sophomore in nutrition and dietetics; and Joseph Armour, sophomore in math education, are all going to be Camp War Eagle counselors this summer, and have given The Auburn Plainsman a bit of insight as to who they really are.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about being a Camp War Eagle counselor?
A: I've already made so many friends with the other counselors, and that's been a huge thing, but I'm also just looking forward to meeting all of my campers [and] just showing them how great Auburn is and what I can do to make their freshman experience better.
Q: What is your favorite part of Auburn?
A: I really like football, but other than that I just love the tradition of it and how it's so welcoming and so family oriented and how it's just a really open place for everyone. (I) come here and I just feel home. I probably feel more at home than I do at Birmingham.
Q: What's your favorite thing to do outside of school?
A: I really just like going to the park with my friends and hanging out, just to chill out because I never get to chill during the week, so it's really fun.
Q: What is the most interesting thing you've ever done?
A: I was actually on a hunting TV show. My cousin . . . runs a TV show and I killed my first deer on it and I was 12 so that was kind of cool. I was on TV.
Q: If you could give one word of advice to your campers what would it be?
A: Just to come in with an open mind and come in knowing that what you put into Camp War Eagle is what you're going to get out of it. So if you come in with a bad attitude, you're not going to get as much out of it as if you're really open to everything and learning everything about Auburn.
Jessica Schaus
Q: When did you first decide you wanted to be a Camp War Eagle counselor?
A: I had thought about it over this summer because I had a friend that went through it, Meg McGuffin, and she loved it and told me all about it, and so through the fall I kind of kept thinking about it and making sure I didn't have any other summer plans but knew that I wanted to be a part of it kind of early on in the fall.
Q: How do you plan to make your campers feel comfortable with such a huge adjustment?
A: I think really just having a positive attitude will help them to see that I'm not stressed out and that I've made it this far and that will show them that they could do the same thing.
Q: What's your favorite place to go on campus?
A: I really enjoy going to the new Rec and Wellness Center.
Q: Do you have anything planned for this summer to help your campers get to know each other better as well as getting to know you?
A: Many fun icebreakers will be to come, and fun conversations.
Q: What is the most fun experience you've had at Auburn?
A: Taking part in the game day aftermath, everyone running down to Toomer's.
Joseph Armour
Q: What is your favorite part of being an Auburn student?
A: You are a part of a family and it seems like all the students are a lot closer and you can definitely see it on game day when you're hugging a random person that you don't know after we score a touchdown.
Q: What do you remember about your Camp War Eagle counselor?
A: She was very encouraging. She knew all the stuff she needed to know. She tried to keep in contact with us when we got to Auburn, made sure everything . . . was going well for us. She was very helpful.
Q: What's the most important thing you've learned during your Camp War Eagle training?
A: Time management skills and being prepared.
Q: What's something interesting about yourself?
A: I'm on the practice squad for the women's basketball team, so I play basketball against some girls every day.
Q: Where is your favorite place to go in Auburn off campus?
A: Moe's Southwest Grill.
