Auburn has rewarded head football coach Gus Malzahn and his staff with raises and contract extensions after a turnaround 2013-14 season, while giving the Tigers' newest head basketball coach Bruce Pearl a new deal as well, according to university officials.
Malzahn's original contract in December 2012 paid him $2.3 million annually for five years, but was extended two years at $3.85 million with an increase of $250,000 annually through 2019.
His new contract includes $300,000 for playing in a national championship game, $500,000 for winning the national title and $200,000 if they play in one of the top six bowl games.
Defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson's contract was extended one year and he received a raise of $50,000 to $800,000.
Pearl's contract is worth $2.2 million and can raise at least $100,000 per season through 2020.
Depending on his team's performance, his incentives include $200,000 for a national championship, $100,000 for an SEC regular-season championship or NCAA Elite Eight, Final Four or national championship game appearance, $50,000 for making the Sweet Sixteen or NCAA Tournament bid, $25,000 for an NIT title and $25,000 for winning nine SEC games.
Pearl would also be rewarded extra for his student-athletes success in the classroom and a $50,000 bonus annually if at least half of Auburn's games are sold out.
Auburn's football coaching assistants were not left out after the program's run to the BCS Championship game last season.
