Second-year Auburn women's basketball assistant Caroline McCombs has been hired as the head coach at Stony Brook University (NY) of the America East Conference after two seasons at Auburn.
While at Auburn McCombs also served as the recruiting coordinator and instructed the Tigers' three-point shooters.
The Tigers saw success during McCombs brief tenure on the Plains under head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy, winning 19 games in both of her seasons and also appearing in the WNIT in both years.
In McCombs' 14 years of experience, she has also served as assistant coach at Pittsburgh, Valpraiso and Northwestern, her teams appeared in four WNIT's and five NCAA Tournaments, with two of her teams making it as far as the Sweet 16.
The Youngstown St. Hall of Famer will replace former Stony Brook coach Beth O'Boyle, who accepted a job at Virginia Commonwealth after leading Stony Brook to an impressive 24-9 overall record and WNIT appearance last season.
