Logan Powell, SGA president, completed the leadership review process of Colson Smith, SGA executive vice president of programs, and Kohl Weir, SGA senator-at-large, and found that no further punishment within the organization was necessary.
Powell stated in his Letter to the Editor, that Smith and Weir will not resign from their positions in the organization.
Because Powell missed the publication deadline for this week's issue, his Letter to the Editor will be published in the Nov. 6 print edition of The Plainsman.
"While the Student Discipline Process states that the incident was an individual act by both Colson and Kohl, I do realize that their actions reflect on the Student Government Association as a whole," Powell stated in the letter. "I would like to make it clear that our organization does not condone or endorse this type of behavior, however, seeing that both Colson and Kohl have successfully completed the Student Discipline Process and have accepted the imposed sanctions, I believe the matter is resolved."
Powell also stated some discrepancies he found in the "Case Closed" article published in the Oct. 23 issue about one of the sanctions agreed upon between Student Affairs,The Plainsman, Smith and Weir.
The "Are they leading by example?" editorial incorrectly stated a Student Conduct representative would speak to Powell, "to recommend the removal of Smith and Weir."
The sanction Smith and Weir agreed to was for SGA to review Smith and Weir's leadership positions in the organization.
This clarification can be found on A2 of the Oct. 30 print edition of The Plainsman.
Smith and Weir are under review because they admitted to taking more than 1,000 copies of The Plainsman's Aug. 28 issue.
Smith and Weir said they took the newspapers because they did not like the editorial about a new transit system that was published in that week's issue.
