Auburn's men's golf team left Indiana with a second place finish at the Sagamore Fall Preview. Tuesday's rounds were cancelled due to weather complications, leaving the tigers no chance to come back on the Illini.
Senior Daniel Stringfellow and sophomore Matt Gilchrest finished tied for second after Monday's 54 holes. Stringfellow said after the rainout that the team really wanted to play today and felt they would've done well.
Stringfellow led all golfers after the first round Monday shooting a 67 (five under). His second round was less impressive (three over), but was still good enough to get him a top finish.
Head coach Nick Clinard said that the team missed a few opportunities late in the day but that they were playing well overall.
The team has the U.S. Collegiate Championships in Georgia starting Friday, and as of now they are ranked eighth in the country. The team has shown that they can compete on the top level with this being their second strait number two finish with little over a month into the season.
