Annual MLK Breakfast to honor Dr. King and award scholarships

The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center will host the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Scholarship Breakfast as part of Auburn University's King Week on Monday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 a.m.
According to Auburn University's Office of Communications and Marketing, the event is sponsored by the National Forum for Black Administrators - East Alabama Chapter, the office of the vice president for University Outreach and the Access and Community Initiatives in the office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs.
Scholarships will be awarded at the event, as well as a community award that will honor the recipient's accomplishments in the Auburn community.
This year, the keynote speaker for the breakfast will be Clifton Davis, an actor best known for his role as the Rev. Reuben Gregory on the NBC show "Amen." In addition to being an actor, Davis is also a singer, producer, composer and minister.
Dr. Paulette Patterson Dilworth, assistant vice president of access and community initiatives, said the event will be a wonderful opportunity to recognize Dr. King's work during the Civil Rights Movement, and to remember that despite everything he accomplished, there is still much unfinished work in the ongoing quest for equality.
"This is an excellent opportunity, particularly for young people," Dilworth said. "Especially since there is such limited knowledge about [Dr. King's] work these days, it is something they can benefit from."
Tickets for the MLK Annual Scholarship Breakfast are $30. More information on how to purchase tickets can be found by calling 334-844-5042.
