Public Safety and Security reported a person was bitten by a raccoon on campus by Samford Avenue and Mell Street Thursday, Jan. 15 in the afternoon.
Susan McCallister, associate director of public safety and security, said a student was bitten by the raccoon, but did not give a name.
Public Safety has a contract with a pest control company that set traps throughout campus Thursday night. One raccoon was captured.
McCallister said she does not know whether this was the raccoon that bit the student, but the raccoon pest control caught is being tested from rabies.
Public safety was notified by Fred Kam, medical director at the Auburn University Medical Clinic, a student was bit.
"We just want people, if they see wild animals on campus, we don't want them to approach (the animals)," McCallister said.

The department emailed students, faculty and staff about the incident at approximately 4:30 p.m. saying Facilities Management is looking for the raccoon now.
"The health status of the raccoon is not known, but all raccoons are potential carriers of rabies," said the email from Public Safety and Security. "If you see a raccoon or other animal acting in an unusual manner on campus (such as a nocturnal animal being active during the day, or any wild animal showing no fear of humans), avoid the animal and dial 911."
Anyone who has been bitten or scratched by a wild animal is asked to seek medical attention from their personal doctor, Auburn Medical Clinic or the East Alabama Medical Center.
More details to come.
