The No. 9 Auburn men’s golf team won the Tiger Invitational Presented by Jason Dufner at Grand National’s Lake Course on Tuesday, March 10, by 28 strokes, a tournament record.

Auburn’s Michael Johnson also earned his first collegiate individual win, shooting a final round 2-under and 8-under total.

Johnson, who previously set the Auburn 54-hole record at 16-under last September, beat Georgia State’s J.J. Grey by one stroke.

The Tigers had five individuals place in the top six, and Auburn was able to create separation from second-place Troy and third-place Georgia State.

Sophomore Matt Gilchrest, freshman Ben Schlottman and sophomore Will Long all shot 6-under total for a tie for third place, and senior Dan Stringfellow tied for fifth with a 5-under.

Freshman Matthew Perrine tied for 25th at 4-over, sophomore Ryan Benton tied for 31st at 5-over and sophomore Blake Messer tied for 45th at 9-over.

Auburn’s next event is the Schenkel Invitational on March 20-22 at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia.
