Mayor Bill Ham, Jr. and the Auburn Veterans Committee will hold the17th Annual Mayor's Memorial Day Breakfast Monday, May 25, at 8 a.m. at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center, according to a press release issued by the City of Auburn.
The event will honor the United States Military with proceeds going to the Auburn Veterans Memorial Fund.
Capt. Kenneth "Husky" Kirkwood, recipient of the 2015 City of Auburn Distinguished Veteran Award, will be the guest of honor.
The Auburn Heroes Remembered Award will be in honor of Lt. Col. Harold "Hal" Decker. This year marks the fourth year the award will be given to the family of a local distinguished veteran who has passed away.
Tickets can be purchased at City Hall and the Auburn Chamber of Commerce for $25 each or $250 for a table of 10.
There will be a wreath laying ceremony after the breakfast at 10 a.m. at the Auburn Veterans Memorial Monument, which is located at the northeast corner of Ross Street and Glenn Avenue.
Attendees can park at the Douglas J. Watson Municipal Complex and Felton Little Park.
Ross Street will be closed from Glenn Avenue to Harper Avenue during the ceremony to allow parking for the disabled.
Closings on Memorial Day:
Auburn City Hall will be closed Monday, May 25, to recognize Memorial Day.
The Auburn Public Library will be closed Monday, May 25. However, book drops will still be open. The online collection of ebooks, e-audiobooks, and digital magazines are available 24/7.
The garbage collection schedule will be altered for the holiday.
