In the Tigers' first battle with LSU on the road Friday, May 1, the team pulled out a victory by a single digit, 2-1.
After a slow first half-inning, the Tigers were able to bring Emily Carosone home after two consecutive walks and a grounder from Morgan Estell. In the bottom LSU returned the point with a close home run from Sahvanna Jaquish that hit the left field wall to bring it back in. Although Jaquish wasn’t able to round the bases, her hit was enough to pull AJ Andrews in for the run.
Tied at 1-1, both Tigers’ score wouldn't change until a wild pitch from LSU allows Kasey Cooper to steal home successfully in the top of the third.
LSU fought hard with consecutive hits, but was unable to execute a run due to the rock-solid Auburn defense. In the end of the fourth, Marcy Harper snagged a line drive that seemed to promise some distance, making it her third straight scoreless inning on the mound.
The Auburn defense continued to hold steady as Cooper pulled a double play at third off of AJ Andrews’ hit, and Auburn was sent back to the dugout.
No runs for Auburn at bat, but another highlight on the field with Estell’s dive catch in the sixth.
Auburn was able to keep the score permanent until time was up and snatched the lead by a groundout to short.
Auburn will look to continue the winning sweep to LSU Saturday night, May 2, in Baton Rouge at 6 p.m.
