Local veterans honored at Mayor's Memorial Day Breakfast

The 17th annual Mayor’s Memorial Day Breakfast was held Monday morning, May 25, in honor of local veterans.

City leaders, members of the public and veterans turned out for the 8 a.m. breakfast at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

There was a wreath laying ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Auburn Veterans Memorial Monument.

Proceeds from the event went to the Auburn Veterans Memorial Fund.

“Everywhere you look there is someone who has served,” said Lt. Col. Jon Segars, newly appointed chairman of the Auburn Veterans Committee. “Today at the breakfast we had about 12 World War II veterans. It’s refreshing to get their perspective. It’s great."
