Following their transitions from quarterback, Auburn wide receivers Jason Smith and Jonathan Wallace are becoming acclimated to their new position in fall practice.

Smith played quarterback at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before transferring to Auburn in January but moved to receiver in the spring after Jeremy Johnson won the starting quarterback job.

"I think I'm doing pretty good," Smith said of his position change. "I'm just glad I'm around people who like to work hard and come to work every day."

Wallace moved to wide receiver late in the 2014 season and is also growing acclimated to the position.

"[Camp] is going great, I think everyone is settling in now," Wallace said. "The biggest thing is that everybody is playing with great effort, and that's what coach really likes."

Smith and Wallace are among a scrum of players fighting for playing time at receiver, and Wallace said the competition is about finding guys who can make game-changing plays.

"I'm battling for a position every day," Wallace said. "It's just a matter of going out and executing everyday. [The coaches] have to count on us to make plays. They have to count on us to execute out there, give great effort. If we can't get that done, we can't play. That's the bottom line."

Like the rest of the team, the focus of the receivers in fall camp is improvement.

"There's no time or place for complacency," Wallace said. "We can always develop and get better."
