The Aviation Center has a new ambassador program called Striped Wings. According to Will Leveille, director and co-founder of the group, Striped Wings is a student ambassador organization is like The Plainsman but for The Aviation center. We go out and recruit students for all the aviation programs and different clubs that Auburn offers.
Leveille said the group goes out into the local community and also works nationally. Locally, the members do high school fairs, college fairs and speak. They also do tours of the airport on campus, and they go to fly-ins and airshows.
He said that James Hall, the other co-signer, they would go to events and they wouldn’t be very organized, so they decided they wanted things more organized and to do that, they had to become an organization. They lay out events they will do, and they thought it would be better for the university and the students.
“I love the program; it’s kind of like my baby, because I’ve pretty much started the whole thing, but I love it, and I think it’s going to grow and really help the flight school," Leveille said. "A lot of people don’t know that we're the second-oldest flight school in the nation. We’re the oldest continually run flight school; we've been around since the 1930s. Just getting people aware, I think, will help the program grow."
Not only is Leveille excited, but so are the students involved with Striped Wings.
“It is humbling to be part of such an important mission. We are committed to sharing our love of Auburn and of aviation with those generations behind us, with the hope that we positively impact their future,” said current student of Striped Wings, Hanna Fowler.
