Auburn first university in Alabama to be named a Bicycle Friendly University

Auburn is the first university in Alabama to be named a Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists, according to a University press release, and is now one of more than 100 universities to receive the Silver Bicycle Friendly University award.

The University provides 12 miles of bike lanes and paths, more than 3,000 bike racks, access to bike maintenance and guided bicycle trips. It also offers incentives such as free bicycle permits, commuter rewards for cyclists and bike raffles.

"Since the completion of the first Comprehensive Campus Master Plan in 2002, the Auburn University main campus has taken strides to make the campus facilities and infrastructure more bicycle friendly," said Campus Planner Ben Burmester in the release.

Auburn now has access to a variety of free tools and technical assistance from the League of American Bicyclists, according to the release.
