Auburn graduates win second place at the National Black MBA Association Case Competition

A team of Auburn University graduates recently came in second place at the National Black MBA Association case competition.

According to Chantel Tremitiere, Auburn University business graduate, the National Black MBA Association is an association with previous and current African-American MBA graduates and students. They hold this conference every year in different cities.

Tremitiere said what made their group great was that, unlike the other teams, they had a non-black teammate, Peyton Alsobrook.

Alsobrook was originally going to be an alternate but Tremitiere felt as though he, an expert in finances, would carry them over the top. She felt as though the strength of each individual on team made them a great team.

“To be honest, for a white kid to go down and win best Q&A at an African-American conference, he had to be pretty good," Tremitiere said. "And it wasn’t because he was white, it was because he was really good."

The team stood out because they embraced diversity, Alsobrook said.

“The fact that we were so different and that we accepted those differences and we celebrated it and allowed it to kind of create something special, that is what really helped us stand out and made us unique," Alsobrook said. "That we were all so different but when we came together and kind of accepted differences and let each other challenge one another that’s how we kind of succeeded and were able to come up with some unique responses."

Alsobrook said they won $15,000 in scholarship money and the executives there asked them to come and present their presentation to their board in Detroit.
