Veterans Resource Center conducts veteran suicide awareness campaign

The Auburn Veterans Association is conducting a campaign to bring awareness to the 22 veteran suicides that happen each day.

The AVA be a week-long visual display of flags and candles on Cater Lawn to honor the veterans who have died.

On Wednesday, Veteran's Day, the AU Veterans Resource Center will host an open house from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in 217 Foy Hall.

Veterans, service members, guardsmen, reservists and family members of veterans are invited to Auburn University Veteran’s Resource Center for appetizers and a tour.

The Veteran’s Resource Center will also be celebrating each branch of service on a designated day of the week in order of precedence. according to a press release.

Each day, a service branch song will play from Samford tower after the fight song to honor the U.S. military.

Officer Will Jimeno, whose story inspired the movie "World Trade Center," will speak on Friday, Nov. 15 in 113A Lowder Hall at 1 pm.

Jimeno will present Auburn University with a piece of steel from the World Trade Center at a formal ceremony at 10:30 a.m. in front of 217 Foy Hall.
