A man was shot and killed at the 400 block of Webster Road on Saturday, Jan. 9, according to a news release issued by the Auburn Police Division.
APD responded to a shots fired call at approximately 3:40 p.m. that day. Officers found an unresponsive male with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. He was treated at the scene and transported to East Alabama Medical Center.
The victim, who was identified as Marquorious Jurrell Rowell, 18, of Auburn, was pronounced dead by an EAMC emergency room doctor at 4:23 p.m.
The body was transported to the state medical examiner's office in Montgomery for an autopsy.
A juvenile acquaintance, who was still at the scene, was identified by the shooter and was taken from the scene by officers, according to the release.
The investigation is ongoing, however preliminary investigation indicates the shooting was accidental, according to the release.
