Michael Johnson named SEC Golfer of the Week

Days removed from winning an individual title and helping Auburn to its fourth consecutive team title at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, Michael Johnson picked up an honor from the SEC office on Thursday.

Johnson was named the SEC Golfer of the Week after he shot 14-under-par 202 at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Course, which tied for the third-lowest 54-hole score in Auburn history.

“It’s a great honor to be SEC Golfer of the Week,” Johnson said. “I’ve always wanted to win the award. It’s extremely difficult to win it because the conference is filled with great players."

Johnson has finished in the top 20 in all tournaments this season, including four top-5 finishes. He has two wins to his name, the Primland Collegiate and the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.

The Birmingham native is currently ranked No. 2 individually in the country by Golfweek, as he's carded eight rounds below 70.

Johnson and the Tigers will return to action March 6-8 when they host the Tiger Invitational at Grand National Lake Course in Opelika.
