The No. 3 Auburn softball team claimed the first of a three-game series with South Carolina with a 10-0 win that was called after five innings.
Kasey Cooper cranked a grand slam in the fourth inning to jump-start the Tigers (28-4, 4-3) and push their lead over the Gamecocks to 8-0. Jade Rhodes followed that up with a two-run homer of her own to stretch the deficit to 10 runs.
Freshman Kaylee Carlson got the start and held South Carolina to just four hits in five innings as she picked up the shutout and claimed her seventh win of the year.
“I thought it was a good game. Kaylee Carlson was out there dealing," Auburn coach Clint Myers said. "It was a well-pitched ball game. She came here to pitch and she said she would show us. Right now she is doing every bit of that.”
Auburn will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 2 p.m. to wrap up the weekend series.
