Fourth Auburn Indie Student Film Festival to be held in Langdon Hall Thursday

The fourth Auburn Indie Student Film Festival, hosted by the Auburn University New Media Club, will be held on Thursday, April 21. Held in Langdon Hall at 7 p.m., this festival showcases student filmmakers. The event is free and open to students and community members to attend.

The festival received more than 70 submissions, not just from local student filmmakers but from student filmmakers around the country and internationally, and will show 18 films at the festival. In this year's lineup, there is a variety of pieces, like narratives, animations and documentaries, according to Kris Sims, president of the Auburn University New Media Club.

The festival is put on by students and sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Verge Pipe Media. There will be a panel of three judges, comprised of Josh Hilyer, Lindsay McCormick and Silas Zee, who decide one first and second place awards. There is a fan favorite prize, which the audience at the event will vote on.

According to Sims, senior in media studies and Multimedia Editor of The Auburn Plainsman, the festival is meant to help grow Auburn's independent film community and expose students to the creative productions of other students.

"The filmmaking industry is highly competitive," Sims said. "Student filmmakers may have even more trouble finding the competition."

Sims said with the festival, students in the Auburn community have a chance to compete and show off their talents.
