Brooklyn Holt, sophomore in political science and journalism, was crowned Miss Auburn on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the "Fabulous 50's" themed Miss Auburn University pageant, held at Telfair B. Peet Theatre.
Holt’s platform is “Raise Your Voice for Children,” and she sang “Don’t Forget Me” from the TV series SMASH as her talent.
Holt was supported by Tiger Rags, Auburn University’s Majorettes and Northcutt Realty, who each had full page ads supporting her in the pamphlet.
As the competition’s winner, Holt will be awarded one-year resident tuition and fees, along with gifts from local sponsors such as Ware Jewelers, Crossfit on the Plains and Tiger Rags.
Mallory Hagan, Miss New York 2012 and Miss America 2013, served as the emcee for the evening.
Since Miss America, Hagan is completing her bachelors in journalism from Auburn, and is the newest member of the morning news team at WLTZ NBC 38 in Columbus, GA.
Throughout the night, the 16 contestants took part in several different portions of the competition including on-stage questions, swimsuit, talent and evening wear competitions and a 10-minute interview that was held prior to the event.
The 2016 Miss Auburn University, Susanna Bagwell also performed several dance numbers between the competitions and gave advice to the 2017 Miss Auburn University.
“To the new Miss Auburn University, take a second to soak it all in," Bagwell said. "You have a busy and absolutely amazing year ahead of you with the best student team, executive directors, and community you could ever ask for."
Bagwell said she's hopefully her successor will do a good job.
“This is your year to make a difference on Auburn University’s campus and in the community," Bagwell said. "I know that you will represent Auburn well and continue to let your light shine throughout the year.”
Taylor Golden, sophomore in general science education, served as the assistant director of Miss Auburn.
“My team and I put so much time and hard work into this pageant, and it definitely paid off last night,” Golden said. “I was very impressed with the show as a whole, but I was even more impressed with the support of our sponsors, the support of the previous titleholders and the support of the contestants."
Golden said the event wouldn't have been possible without the contestants' work.
"Without them, this
wouldn’t have been possible, and their support is the driving force behind this
wonderful program," Golden said. "I am so thankful to have been
able to work with this program and to be a part of something bigger than
myself.”
