Sophomore Brandon Laubser wins title at Georgia Tech Invitational

Auburn sophomore Brandon Laubser claimed the Flight 3 series title with a victory on Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Georgia Tech Men’s Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Laubser was among four Tigers representing the team over the weekend, along with Max Hinnisdaels, Connor Huertas del Pino and Edward Nguyen.

Laubser was undefeated in singles with a record of 4-0. Vanderbilt’s Tate Alldwart was Laubser’s opponent in the championship match. Lausber’s wins also came against Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Miami.

Lausber finished 2-1 in doubles with partner Nguyen. The pair claimed an 8-5 decision in the consolation round against Florida’s David Sarkissov and Joseph Guillin. Nguyen finished 3-1 in singles, downing Georgia Tech’s Phillip Gresk 6-4 and 6-2 in consolation.

Huertas del Pino claimed the Flight 2 consolation title with a 4-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (10-4) win over Tennessee’s Scott Jones. Huertas del Pino finished the weekend 3-1 in singles play, and 1-1 in doubles play prior to partner Max Hinnisdaels’ withdrawal due to injury.

Hinnisdaels went 1-1 in singles play at the event, with his 7-5, 6-3 victory coming over Vanderbilt’s Panu Virtanen. 

The invitational spanned from Oct. 7-9. Participating schools included the host Georgia Tech, along with Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Furman and Miami.

The Tigers return to Auburn for their only fall action at home from Friday, Oct. 14 to Monday, Oct. 17 for the ITA Southern Regionals at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
