Aubie Claus fundraiser helps send Aubie to 2017 championships

The Aubie Claus fundraiser was held in the Student Center on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be an additional Aubie Claus event on Sunday, Nov. 20.

This fundraiser, put on by the Aubie Program, benefits Aubie’s trip to compete in the 2017 UCA Mascot National Championship in Orlando, Florida.

Rosemary Shelton, Aubie director and junior in marketing, said the funds will go towards his props, costumes, transportation and housing fees.

Aubie and his team will be competing in what would be his unprecedented tenth national championship title.

He has won nine overall, which is more than any other collegiate mascot.

Shelton said this year’s Aubie Claus is already a huge success.

“I actually had someone from Kentucky call me a few months ago asking about when it is so that their family could come down for it,” Shelton said.

All sessions for Aubie Claus were booked in the first four hours it was available online, Shelton said.

“We added around 200 more slots, and those sold out in about 10 minutes,” Shelton said.

There are approximately 400 sessions booked on both Sundays, Shelton said.

The Aubie Program asked for a $10 donation in order to get two photos taken by a professional photographer with Aubie, dressed in an orange and blue Santa Claus costume.

The Aubie Program will make Aubie Claus shirts available for people who were unable to book Aubie Claus appointments.
