ASB MLK trip

ASB will be partnering up with BSU to help serve in community development by focusing on education of current social issues all while remembering the life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Monday January 17 ASB will depart Auburn at 7am via charter bus and will arrive to Selma around 9am. There are various events planned throughout the day, but will begin with ASB meeting with Selma’s Chamber of Commerce to learn more about the significance of MLK and the March on Montgomery.

ASB will volunteer at five different sites throughout the day: Selma Food Bank, Selma Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army, Edmundite Missions, and the Old Depot Museum. The 55 students attending this trip will be split up based on how many students each site can take and will be doing anything from painting to sorting food to helping prepare for a charity auction.

The trip cost is $20; this will cover transportation cost as well as a t-shirt and provided meals throughout the course of the day including Panera for breakfast, pizza for lunch, and Chick-Fil-A for dinner.

For the past two years Auburn’s ASB has traveled to Birmingham and Atlanta over the entire extent of MLK Day weekend allowing only 11 students to go, but this year ASB will be taking a day trip to Selma, Alabama which will allow 55 students to go. By doing this day trip they are able to take almost five times as many people. This permits more students and people to get involved which will ultimately make a more positive impact.
