Kasey Cooper named to All-SEC Preseason Team

Auburn senior third baseman Kasey Cooper was named to her third consecutive All-SEC preseason Team, the SEC announced Wednesday.

Cooper, the 2016 SEC Player of the Year, hit .422 last season to go along with 19 doubles, 21 home runs and 83 RBI. The Dothan, Alabama native set seven individual single-season school records, including games started (70), RBI (83), home runs (21), walks (71), on-base percentage (.581), slugging percentage (.880) and total bases (163).

Cooper is a career .410 hitter, which is also tops in Auburn history. She has hit 43 doubles and 57 home runs in her three years at Auburn. She has also drawn 163 walks compared to striking out just 47 times in her career. Cooper also won SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year last season.

The Preseason All-SEC Softball Team is voted on by the league’s head coaches and consists of a minimum of 14 players. Each SEC head coach voted for five infielders, four outfielders, three pitches, one catcher and one designated player. Florida, Georgia and LSU led the SEC with three players selections each.

Auburn will open their season in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico playing in the Triple Crown Tournament from Feb. 9-Feb.11. The Tigers will face Oklahoma in a Women’s College World Series rematch to begin the tournament on Feb. 9.
