Auburn notched their first tally in the 2017 loss column on Friday night, as the No. 20 Tigers fell on the road in overtime to No. 13 Clemson, 2-1.
“That result is a heartbreaker,” Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa said. “I thought we played hard. I thought we had the better of the play for a majority of the game, but give credit to Clemson; they got it done in the penalty box when it mattered.”
After the initial 90 minutes, the Tiger squads remained at the 1-1 deadlock. Bri Folds knocked in her first shot of the year for Auburn, while Kristen Dodson remained aggressive with a trio of shots.
The deadlock continued through the first overtime, however Clemson (3-0) ended the contest 120 seconds into the second overtime period with the game-winning goal.
No. 20 Auburn (1-1-1) returns to The Plains for a showdown with North Dakota on Sunday evening, with the kickoff time set for 6 p.m. CST.
