Plainsman's Choice for Serviceman of the Year: Jared Harper

Jared Harper was the point guard and floor general for the SEC regular season champs on the court this season. Off the court however, the Mableton, Georgia product and has worked on various projects throughout the Auburn community and the Atlanta area.

For his service, Harper was named to the Southeastern Conference men’s basketball community service team back in February.

Back home in Atlanta, he was involved in several projects that benefited others. Harper helped feed the homeless, along with organizing presents and wrapped gifts with a local charity during Christmas time. 

Harper also spend time and mentored children with Camp Good Grief back in Atlanta, a foundation devoted to children who lost a parent from cancer.

He also has worked on numerous projects in the Auburn community. Harper spent numerous hours with the Boys and Girls Club of Lee County to visit with students and also helped out with the Jason Dufner Charitable Foundation to help end child hunger in Alabama.

Harper volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for Greater Lee County and Homes for our Troops, a program where Harper and his teammates helped build a home for a wounded veteran and resident of Auburn.

Harper has shown that he is more than capable on and off the court. On the court, he led Auburn to its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2003, averaging 13.2 points per game and 5.4 assists per game on his way to second team All-SEC honors.

Harper has declared for the 2018 NBA draft but has not signed an agent, allowing him to return to school and maintain his collegiate eligibility if he so decides.
